PACIFIC GROVE, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Pacific Grove voters are deciding Measure R in the November 3 election. The ballot question would establish a 0.375 percentage point transactions and use tax to support city services for ten years, with projected annual proceeds of approximately $1 million. On a $100 taxable purchase, the additional tax would be about 37.5 cents. Actual revenues depend on taxable economic activity.
The official ballot language lists street and sidewalk maintenance, beaches, parks, playgrounds, public buildings, pothole repairs, emergency response, paramedics and crime prevention among potential uses. This is a general services measure; the list of potential spending areas does not reserve specific dollars for each category. A simple majority is required, and the county’s voter guide states that independent audits would be part of the measure. A yes vote would approve the proposed tax; a no vote would reject it. California58 makes no endorsement and encourages voters to read the complete county guide.
