PACIFIC GROVE, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. Residents looking for a hands-on way to help protect the coast can take part in California State Parks’ Asilomar State Beach volunteer session on Friday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to noon, according to the department’s Monterey District Natural Resources Volunteer Program calendar.
What will volunteers do?
The weekly Asilomar program can involve greenhouse work, collecting seeds, putting native plants in the ground, or removing invasive vegetation from coastal habitat. The exact assignment changes week to week. That means volunteers should not assume October 30 will involve one particular activity; the staff will provide current details.
Where should participants meet?
Do not simply arrive at a guessed location. State Parks says the meeting point varies. Participants should contact Joseph.Leliaert@parks.ca.gov to confirm where to check in and what work is planned. The volunteer program also accepts RSVPs at Volunteer.Monterey@parks.ca.gov.
What about minors and weather?
California State Parks says children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Volunteer days may be canceled in heavy rain, strong wind, or poor air quality from wildfires. Check the latest agency listing or contact organizers before traveling. The page describes October 30 as the last Friday session of its October calendar; November dates should be confirmed separately when posted.
Why this matters locally
Asilomar’s beach and dunes are part of Pacific Grove’s distinctive coastal landscape. Native-plant restoration and invasive-species removal can support habitat protection, while offering nearby residents direct involvement in public lands stewardship.
